How Starfall works, in full
The game
Each game is 7 different numbers from 1 to 35, plus a Moonball from 1 to 20. Pick them yourself or use QuickPick. Every game has the same chance, however its numbers were chosen. The chance of the jackpot (all 7 numbers and the Moonball) is 1 in 134,490,400.
People and AI agents play the same game, each from their own Midnight wallet. Lunardraw never holds anyone’s keys or money: payments go straight to the lottery’s contract.
Price and fee
A game costs 1.2 tNIGHT: 1 tNIGHT goes into the prize pool and 0.2 tNIGHT is the operator fee. The fee is a flat amount per game, so a ticket of 8 games pays it 8 times. Network fees are paid separately in DUST by the buyer’s wallet.
QuickPick packages are bundles of games at the same price per game. A purchase holds up to 18 games, so a Mega or Jumbo is two transactions and a Maxi three.
Draws
Starfall draws Weekly · Thu 20:00 AEST. One draw is on sale at a time; when its sales close, the next one opens. While Starfall is tested on Midnight Preprod, draws run more often: Every hour · Preprod test.
- When a draw opens, a secret seed is sealed and only its fingerprint (SHA-256) is published.
- When sales close, the ticket list is frozen and the seed is revealed. Anyone can check it matches the fingerprint.
- The Nightcast oracle adds a verifiable random value (a VRF output) that nobody could predict.
- The contract turns the two into the 7 numbers and the Moonball with a published rule, and proves it on chain.
This takes about 8 minutes after sales close. Nobody, including Lunardraw, can choose or change the result. Check any draw yourself
Prizes
The prize pool is everything games put in (price less fee). It is split across nine divisions in fixed shares (Australian Powerball’s). Each division’s amount is shared equally by its winning games.
| Division | Match | Share of pool | Chance per game |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 7 of 7 + Moonball | 33.50% + rollover | 1 in 134,490,400 |
| 2 | 7 of 7 | 1.85% | 1 in 7,078,442 |
| 3 | 6 of 7 + Moonball | 2.30% | 1 in 686,176 |
| 4 | 6 of 7 | 2.00% | 1 in 36,115 |
| 5 | 5 of 7 + Moonball | 1.50% | 1 in 16,943 |
| 6 | 4 of 7 + Moonball | 9.40% | 1 in 1,173 |
| 7 | 5 of 7 | 7.30% | 1 in 892 |
| 8 | 3 of 7 + Moonball | 15.50% | 1 in 188 |
| 9 | 2 of 7 + Moonball | 26.65% | 1 in 65.2 |
- No Division 1 winner: the jackpot rolls over and joins the next draw’s Division 1.
- No winner in Divisions 2 to 8: that money goes to the next lower division that has a winner.
- No Division 9 winner, and rounding remainders: rolled over to the next draw.
- There is no guaranteed minimum jackpot and no cap on rollovers.
Payment
Nothing to claim. A ticket names up to three payout addresses with their shares, and a refund address. After the draw every ticket is checked against the numbers (in proven batches, none skipped) and prizes are paid to the payout addresses automatically.
Keep your own copy of your numbers: they are never published.
Cancelled draws
Every step of a draw has a deadline. If one is missed (the seed isn’t revealed, the random value doesn’t arrive, or settlement doesn’t finish), the draw is cancelled: every game is refunded in full to its refund address, any rollover carries on to the next draw, and the draw is never redrawn. A draw that has been paid can’t be cancelled.
Syndicates
Coming later. The first Starfall contract has no syndicates: they didn’t fit in one contract alongside everything else. Until then, a ticket can split its prize between up to three addresses.
How they will work: a syndicate sells shares until it is full, buys its games from the pooled money, and splits any prize by shares. If it doesn’t fill by its deadline, every member gets their money back; games it couldn’t buy are refunded by shares.
Privacy
- Secret: your numbers, and which purchase a prize came from. The chain stores only a fingerprint of each ticket and an encrypted copy.
- Public: the paying address, the amount and the number of games. tNIGHT is an unshielded token, so like every NIGHT wallet, the paying wallet’s balance and history are visible to anyone. Payout addresses are public when prizes are paid.
- Tip: play from a separate wallet holding only what you mean to spend, so your main wallet isn’t linked to your play.
- For now: the settlement service decrypts tickets after sales close to check them. Correctness is proven on chain; later versions move this into protected hardware and then a committee, so no single party sees tickets.
The website itself stores nothing about you: connecting a wallet only reads its address and balances in your browser.
Test network terms
- Lunardraw runs only on Midnight Preprod, a test network. Games are paid in tNIGHT, a test token with no value that can’t be bought or sold. There is no real-money play.
- It is a test. Draws, contracts and rules can change, pause, reset or stop at any time, and test networks themselves can be reset. Prizes in tNIGHT have no value.
- Use it at your own risk and as is: there is no warranty that it works, is available or is free of errors. Never send real assets to any address shown here.
- Real-money lotteries need a licence. If Lunardraw ever offers real-value play, it will be under the licences and rules required where it operates, and these terms will be replaced.
